Quilts operate as visual archives of lived experience. They have preserved stories of displacement, labor, grief, and resilience, serving as tactile testimonies where dominant narratives have fallen silent. Quiltmaking has functioned as a quiet yet radical act of social justice rooted in collective care, ingenuity, and resistance. Born from necessity within marginalized communities, quilts transformed discarded and limited materials into sources of warmth, protection, and continuity. The act of piecing together fragments became an assertion of value, proof that what has been overlooked still carries beauty and history. Quiltmaking resists scarcity by redefining it, turning remnants into records of survival and dignity.

Stitching becomes more than a technique; it becomes a declaration. Every seam holds presence, every pattern carries memory. Within my own design vision, I am drawn to this language of accumulated touch and embedded history. My style centers on transforming reclaimed materials into sculptural garments that honor their previous lives. Through layering, reconstruction, and intentional craftsmanship, I seek to create pieces that feel both protective and expressive. This collection of garments explores how these materials coexist within both cultural history and the current social landscape.

Reclaiming Identity builds upon these traditions by positioning quilt making not as a background craft but as a central force in contemporary fashion. Working with reclaimed and discarded quilts, the collection celebrates communal authorship, intergenerational knowledge, and care-driven design. Each garment acts as a vessel of continuity rather than erasure, allowing histories of use and repair. By elevating practices often dismissed as "domestic," my work reframes labor as visible, valued, and deeply human. In doing so, I propose an alternative fashion narrative, one rooted in sustainability, longevity, and connection, where innovation and social justice are inseparable from the act of making.
